MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A new type of psychotherapy is helping people cope mentally during the pandemic.

Milwaukee clinicians came together Friday, May 7, at the Residence Inn in downtown Milwaukee, to learn about Accelerated Resolution Therapy, or ART.

ART is an evidence-based therapy that quickly treats PTSD, trauma, anxiety, phobias and other mental health conditions.

One psychologist says this type of therapy is helpful for workers on the front lines during the pandemic.

“They are so traumatized by the death and they are overwhelmed, and we are able to use ART to calm their nervous systems, which enables them to go back into the work situation and not feel so anxious,” said Nancy Blume, licensed psychologist.

ART has been proven to relieve trauma in an average of four sessions.

More than 200 ART trainings are planned for this year.
